If you are leading a team or company, ironically the start of the new year may have you feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or even exhausted - rather than energized. Essentially, burned out before you even get started. 😵💫
The mere thought of taking on bigger targets, more challenges, and pressure-packed deadlines may not motivate you like it used to. I get it.
Burnout shows up a little differently for all of us. Any of these sound familiar?
feel endlessly tired, frustrated and/or overwhelmed
constantly managing high levels of stress and anxiety
can’t seem to turn off your brain or relax (especially after work)
never have enough time for what needs to get done, let alone what you want to get done
not sleeping or eating well
stopped working out months ago (even though you keep trying to restart)
work stuff keeps spilling into (and over) personal and family stuff
just tired of dealing with everyone else’s “stuff”!
Yeah, that’s burnout…and you are not alone.
Burnout for leaders is very real, and the negative impact can be very real for you, your team and your company (especially those working remotely). In addition to how you feel and perform, it leaves virtually nothing left for your team, your family - and oh yeah - yourself.
And while statistically burnout is not getting better for leaders, the good news is that there is a better way. We’ve just been doing it wrong. I was doing it wrong, for a long time. 💡
That’s what led me on a journey to figure out how to beat burnout. Not out of curiosity, but out of necessity. Burnout was having a seriously negative impact on my health, happiness and performance. I had hit my final wall and needed a new way.
Like you, I’ve tried everything through the years, but nothing ever really helped long term. I’d feel better for a short while, then fall back into the endless cycle of burnout.
I’ve managed more than 1,000 team members while building 10 companies over the past 28 years and when it comes to burnout, my experience, research and data all pointed to a single point of failure: time.
Specifically how we plan, prioritize and protect our time.
But this wasn’t just about which calendar tool, time tracking or task software was used (and trust me, I’ve used them all!). This was about the reality of what impacts our time, which for leaders, is very different.
So, I had to build something that worked the way I did.
Like you, I’m busy. And I actually enjoy being busy, active and achieving results. I enjoy “the hustle” but not at the expense of my happiness. So I had to be realistic about my time which looks something like this:
My family is my first priority. My wife and I have a busy house with 3 teenage kids and all the school, sports, music, jobs, etc. that fill a busy week
I run a high-growth, global software company with teams in 45 countries and end up working some really wonky hours
I serve as a strategic advisor for companies, and run my blog & podcast
Our family runs a non-profit charity that is 100% volunteer driven
I have hobbies I like to make time for: exercising, mountain biking, snowboarding, etc. (as my wife would put it: I need to stay busy!)
I travel somewhat frequently for work, often internationally
So, I needed something that could help prevent burnout while allowing me to balance busy work and personal priorities. It had to be something simple, fast and effective that could help me “rebalance” my time depending on what was happening that week (at work and home). It had to work under pressure, allow me to adapt quickly to change, and support both my work and personal life priorities. It had to be flexible, because as a leader, no two weeks are the same! And most important, it had to work long term - something I could integrate and sustain.
And that’s what I built - the Active Balance Schedule.
Utilizing a simple, structured scheduling system I can prevent burnout with just 15 minutes a week of planning. I can easily assess and adjust my schedule with a proven 3 step process that helps me make time for what matters at work AND home. 🚀 🙂
You don’t need special software. You don’t need to start doing 4am ice baths (unless you want to). You don’t need to even change how you work. The framework (and personal template you create) helps you change how you plan, prioritize and protect your time. The result: a proven weekly process to prevent burnout, improve productivity & enjoy life.
For the first time, I’ve packaged this into a powerful 1 hour mini-course.
In this course you’ll learn:
The 3 mistakes most remote leaders make with burnout (and how to avoid them)
How to find and take back up to 10 hours (every week) of your personal time to help regain your energy and a little bit of fun in your life
How to create your own Active Balance Schedule to prevent burnout - in less than 15 min a week!
Plus all the tools and tips (including a free bonus training & assessment)
To kick off the year I’m launching this for just $27 for a limited time. (Reg $197)
If you are ready to finally beat burnout for good, give me an hour and I’ll show you how. (and give you all the tools to do it)
No gimmicks. No teasers. No cringy, high-pressure upsells. I just want to help, and prove to you that I can. Then, maybe I’ll earn the right to help you with something else. And I’m confident by this time next week, you could have new-found hope and optimism for the year ahead - with the plan and tools to do it.
Here’s what it helped me do last year alone:
I took off 3X more time (including 2 weeks with my family in Europe completely unplugged)
Worked fewer hours than ever (while hitting the biggest goals of my career)
Achieved personal weight goal
Worked out daily (or when I wanted to)…in the middle of the day
Made time for mid-week date nights, mountain bike rides and “fun days"
Enabled me to work remotely and enjoy travel to 6 countries for work and vacation
Some of my favorite stories from people I’ve helped implement the Active Balance Schedule:
A top performing tech sales leader move to Italy and work part-time earning more income
A single mom get promoted to a software exec, 2X her team size, 2X her income and 2X time off with her kid
Husband and wife partners taking weekends off for the first time in decades
A CEO sell his company, move and redesign his perfect work-life balance schedule to focus on his passion projects
A CEO take a sabbatical to sail the Caribbean for 9 months with his family!
So, what does better balance look like for you? What would it feel like to finally beat burnout? What would that do for you, your team and your family?
Let’s go from burnout to your best year ever, together.
