Hard Decisions Are Hard

Hard decisions are hard.

The Complex Landscape of COVID-19 Decisions

Right now with COVID, there are a lot of difficult decisions being made that will impact a lot of people. The stakes and emotions are high which makes this all the more difficult. Not to mention the fact there appear to be very few "good options".

I'm grateful for all of you facing tough decisions and taking them head-on. It's emotionally draining not just to get there but the constant mental chatter you drag along after.

>> Businesses are making pressure-packed decisions on opening, closing, layoffs, continued WFH, and pivots.

>> Schools are facing impossible decisions with far-reaching impacts with no clear path forward.

>> State and local officials are faced with trying to balance public health and the economy with fast-changing variables, data, and mounting pressure.

>> Parents are trying to make decisions on everything from who their kids play with and if they should vacation to child care and how to make school and their jobs work in the coming months

Hard decisions are hard for a reason - because there are real consequences affecting real people and you know in advance that not everyone will agree (and in this case, most won't be no matter what the decision).

The Nature of HARD DecisionS

You also rarely have all the information you need to make the best decision. That's not just now with COVID, that's ALWAYS how it is. You have to trust your instincts, your gut, and your intentions of doing what is best with the information and resources you have at hand.

For those making decisions - do what you have to do. Be decisive, be flexible, and adjust as needed. We've got your back.

Conclusion

For those impacted by decisions - be supportive where you can, be reasonable in your response, and try to be empathetic to those doing the best they can with what they have even if you don't agree. Focus on what you can do.

It's going to be hard, but we can get through this together.
